Who is a Candidate for a Liver Transplant?

People who have cirrhosis with complications of end-stage liver disease may be eligible for liver transplant evaluation and to be placed on a liver transplant waiting list. People with other conditions may also meet the criteria for a liver transplant and be considered for the list. These conditions include but are not limited to:

  • Severe breathing problems and/or high blood pressure caused by cirrhosis
  • Inherited metabolic disorders
  • Liver cancer or tumors that cannot be surgically removed
  • Recurrent bacterial cholangitis
